Kenya Independent Schools Association (KISA) is an Association that brings together non-publicformal community and private schools serving low income households in Kenya. It was formally registered with the Registrar of Societies in 1999 as the Kenya Non Formal Schools Association (KENSA) and changed its name to Kenya Independent Schools Association (KISA) in 2006 and got a fresh mandate from the Registrar of Societies in 2006.
Over the years, KISA has interpreted its statutory mandate to consider three things; membership and networking; capacity building; and policy engagement. Against this backdrop, since its change of name from Kenya Non-formal Schools Association in 2006, KISA has been actively involved in the growth of the “non-formal” education sector. Besides the continuation of programs and activities geared towards realizing its strategic priorities, KISA has also been involved in other activities occasioned by the changes necessitated by the country’s new socio-economics dynamics, particularly in the education sector.
We have endeavored to work closely with various stakeholders in the education sector from the local authorities to international non-governmental organizations.
